The name “Kuya Kano” comes from the Philippines, meaning essentially “big brother from America”. It was in Las Pinas, in the southern part of Manila where I kept hearing the salesmen calling me “Kuya” to get my attention, and the young ladies saying the word “Kano” to one another as they whispered and smiled at me. It was here where I fell in love. First with a woman, then with the people, and eventually an entire Nation. It is still where my heart still calls “home”, despite it being a metro area of 11,800,00 people that contradicts my usual passion for solitude in the wilderness. The hustle-bustle, tricycles, jeepneys, and non-stop traffic are clear indicators that there is something special about Las Pinas that inspires so many people to want to be there.

His musical style was first influenced around 2003-2004 in Puerto Nuevo, Mexico where a duet known as "Latcho and Andrea".
